You can send your old guitar strings to a recycling guitar shop, it would be a good idea to change your guitar strings after a few weeks, or when the strings start going black. Acoustic and Electric strings last a lot longer so do not need to be changed that often, unless you are gigging, when you should have new strings for each gig or second gig ideally.
