There are thin guitar picks and heavy ones, depending on the musical style some styles require heavy picks like rock and heavy metal due to the attack needing to be hard and fast when striking the string, sometimes in a heavy down motion, but some musicians like thin picks when playing very fast higher up the fretboard, also lighter picks can be used when frets are scalloped for neo-classical players, which requires less push on the pick and more of a slide motion.
