My Passion for the Guitar: How I Learned to Love the Art

My Passion for the Guitar: How I Learned to Love the Art.

As a child, I had a passion for music, the guitar was my chosen instrument. I remember begging my dad to allow me to take lessons, having seen some of the greats such as Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page playing their solos on the big screen. It didn’t take a lot of persuading for my dad to pick up a guitar and begin to learn himself, and although we rarely found the time for it, our family jam session nights soon became a regular fixture.

At first, my father taught me the basic chords, the same ones he had learnt in his youth, but little by little, I started to truly take an interest in the instrument. I took it upon myself to practice after school and as I grew more proficient, I started to build up a repertoire. Years later, I would develop into an accomplished player capable of playing many styles from acoustic, jazz, blues to rock.

Guitar lessons were the beginning of my passion for the instrument, the first real challenges that I encountered in learning the guitar was technique and accuracy. It was a special moment when I finally started to connect what I heard to what I was playing. Practicing accuracy and precision helped me to define and mould my sound.

I was never a natural guitarist, or even particularly talented, but I put in lots of hard work and persevered. Whilst I didn’t naturally have the muscle memory and ear that many experienced guitarists possess, I was relentless in my endeavours. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of learning, and I found that I had an inner drive that pushed me determine to succeed.

During my practice sessions, I would carefully think about the notes that I wanted to play and slowly build up my technique. I also paid careful attention to the subtleties of each note – how it sounded, how it felt and how it resonated within the structure of the song. I gradually began to develop my own unique playing style, which I often used to express my emotions and create memorable pieces of music.

It’s fair to say that I would eventually become addicted to the guitar – just like I was back when I was a kid – but this time round I was able to develop and hone my skills to a much higher level. I learned so much from reading guitar books, watching tutorials on YouTube and seeing other players perform in person. I also enjoyed talking to other devotees and picking up tips from seasoned professionals.

I have come to greatly appreciate the guitar and all its wonders. The instrument has become part of my life and its song is now firmly embedded within my being. The artform has developed and grown over the years, but it still retains its unique ability to move and inspire those who embrace it. From the intricate melodies of Spanish classical music to the heavy riffs of grunge and heavy metal, it has something to offer everyone.

They say that practice makes perfect, and that’s certainly true of playing guitar. I may never become a virtuoso, but I’ve come to love and appreciate the instrument even more than I did when I was a kid. I’m still learning, developing and progressing – striving to make my sound better every day, and becoming one with the song I’m delivering.

This is my passion for the guitar – a passion that I discovered when I was a child and which I’ve only grown since. It’s a passion that will always remain close to me, no matter what comes.
